GNSS Integrity Monitoring

The GNSS-SPAN group has been working from 2017 to 2020 on a project entitled “Trustworthy Positioning for Next Generation Intelligent Transport System” funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Scheme (ARC DP). The University of South Wales (UNSW) and RWTH Aachen University (Germany) were the research partners in this project.

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) will play the main role in our future transport system. The project focuses on developing a novel holistic approach for reliable positioning for ITS. It will address the challenges of integrity monitoring in ITS when employing next-generation satellite-based technology, its integration with other sensors, and when supported by the proposed Australia National Positioning Infrastructure. It will consider the unique Australian geography, large area, sparse population, and places an emphasis on rural transport. Primary outputs will be new algorithms, a detailed analysis of required systems, and recommendations that will help prepare Australia for the importation of vehicles with self-driving capabilities.
